June 16-18 |Minneapolis, MN

The Railway Engineering Education Symposium (REES) offers university faculty a unique opportunity to explore the world of railway engineering. Led by experienced professors who have successfully guided students into rail careers, REES provides hands-on knowledge and ready-to-use lecture materials to help participants integrate railway engineering into their curriculum—ultimately increasing the number of engineers entering the industry.

Developed by the AREMA Educational Foundation in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), REES addresses the growing demand for railway engineers driven by high retirement rates, industry expansion, and renewed interest in high-speed passenger rail. Investments from leaders like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates underscore the importance of this field.

Held biannually since 2008, REES attracts over 30 engineering faculty from across the U.S. and Canada, representing civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines. Participants gain access to online content modules for classroom use, as well as on-site lab instruction and field trips to local rail facilities. Attendance is offered at no cost to qualified individuals, with limited travel reimbursement available on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you’re interested in joining, apply now to participate in REES and help shape the future of railway engineering.
